This is the location of the Porta Occidentalis or Western Gate, originally with houses at each side but the house was built over it in Roman times.
Researchers at The University of Suor Orsola Benincasa discovered the presence of the Porta Occidentalis (posterula) with access to the city, aligned on an axis with via di Nola and Porta di Nola inside a contemporarily chronological arch ascribable to between III and II century BC.
