Gell wrote –
“This Plate exhibits one of the most splendidly decorated walls of the house of the Dioscuri.
The curtain is added because there is no trace of a door in the opening between the two courts, and the ceiling of the atrium is restored, since there can be no doubt on the subject, for the better comprehending of the original effect.
The pillars in front are even now covered with a paltry roof, which has been somewhat improved in this Plate in the style of the period when Pompeii was destroyed.”
