Pseudoperistyle and east side Atrium
VI.9.6 Pompeii. Found on 18th June 1828 in room 6, the peristyle.
Wall painting of slaughter of sons of Niobe.
On the interior piers (east facing) at the western end of the peristyle were a painted pair of gold coloured candelabra shaped as Delphic tripods.
Encircling their tiered shafts were figures enacting the slaughter of the Niobids: the female victims on one side, the young men on the other.
Now in Naples Archaeological Museum. Inventory number 9302.
