According to PPM –
“Mau described the ala as being decorated in the “candelabra style”, Mau W, p.378.
Today, not much remains of the colours – the zoccolo was red-violet, the predella showing coloured stripes of different widths.
The middle zone alternated with a yellow central panel and a red side panels, subdivided by narrow candelabra just 5cm wide and bordered at the edge of the wall, by green bands. The middle zone was separated from the upper zone by a coloured frieze similar to the predella with several parallel stripes; the dominant colour being blue and yellow; the stripes were separated by narrow black , red and white lines. No traces of colour remained in the upper zone.

(PPM and Avellino – room j).
VII.4.57 Pompeii. March 2009. Room 10, north wall of cubiculum.
(PPM and Avellino – room j).
According to PPM –
This was the only room decorated in IV Style.
The paintings had been preserved in a more satisfactory state on the north wall, even if only in pieces and up to the height at which the wall was preserved, i.e. the upper part of the middle area.
The zoccolo, 70cm high, was red and divided into panels by white lines, three of which were wider, and decorated with bunches of leaves: in the remaining two were heads of horses in profile, painted yellow.
The middle zone was divided into three panels separated by white pilasters (width 25.5cm).
The central and left panels were preserved in all their width (1m), the one on the right only preserved in fragments.
In the panels, framed by a 5cm wide perforated border, there were the figures thus described by Avellino "a bacchante with thyrsus and a winged cupid with basket". The side panels were red, the middle one yellow.
The decoration
probably dates back to the period between 62 and 79 AD.
