This floor contained a fine mosaic in such a damaged condition that the subject – a lion standing over a prostrate tiger – could not be made out, until a duplicate was found in 1885.

According to Breton, when found this was badly damaged, and for that reason was not taken to the Museum.

According to Pagano and Prisciandaro, this beautiful mosaic of a lion was found in many fragments.

Anne Laidlaw, the Director of Excavations of the House of Sallust, has confirmed for us that it is in fact from the House of the Faun.
