According to Della Corte, this house connected with VI.8.22 originally through the south wall of the atrium.

The floor of the atrium was made from a fine lavapesto (crushed lava) with regular rows of white tesserae.
The edge of the impluvium was missing.
On the west side (left of photo) two channels were carved into the floor, and although they have now been infilled and made level with the flooring, they can just be seen.
These would have been used for the drain pipes leading from the garden to the mouth of the cistern and were originally crudely dug into the flooring.

VI.8.23 Pompeii. Two medallions of heads of Maenads from walls of tablinum incorporated into one painting by Giuseppe Marsigli.
The Maenad on the left is described by Helbig (457), and the one on the right (Helbig 458).
Now in Naples Archaeological Museum. Inventory number ADS 1190.

“Two cupids, one in the act of milking a goat, while the other with a stick in one hand and a basket in the other, seems to have reaped the fruits of the effort of the first.”

“This picture accompanied that published in the preceding table and was painted in the same place.
It showed a cupid that had hurled two arrows at a bear, one of which was stuck in the chest of that animal, and the bear hurling himself furiously towards the cupid who flees his fury, to which the dog was in the act of pouncing to the defence of the small hunter.”
