According to Warscher –
“The holes remain after the paintings have been transferred to the Museum.
The ornaments left in situ deserve attention because they are among the finest of the Third style.
As for the side panels – you can clearly see that they represented curtains.
As far as I know this is the only example of the Third style where curtains are represented.
If it were not for this example so characteristic of the Third style, (just look at the ornaments!), I would have said that the curtains are found only in the Fourth style, but this example prevents me from doing this generalization.
