IX.2.18 Pompeii. March 2009. Room 10, west wall of cubiculum or triclinium.
In the centre of the middle zone of the west wall would have been a painting of Galatea sitting on a dolphin.
The painting was already badly preserved at the time of its discovery, according to Sogliano, (471).
Galatea, covered only around her legs by a red and blue mantle, was sitting on the back of a dolphin with her right hand on its head.
In the centre of the painting, traces of the figure of Polyphemus were conserved.

IX.2.18 Pompeii. March 2009. Room 11, garden area. Niche on north wall of east portico area.
According to Boyce, this rectangular niche was coated with white stucco like the wall surrounding it.
The back wall was covered with red spots, imitating flowers, its floor was a projecting tile.
Painted on the wall below was an altar and from the right a huge red and yellow serpent with a crest approached it.
Around the serpent were painted plants, and on them was perched an owl and other birds.
Behind the serpent were two dolphins and a sea-monster.
Four other small dolphins were painted somewhere nearby.
Sogliano said
they were sul podio della nicchietta.

The remains of the lower masonry steps (in the lower left) would have led to the rooms on the upper floor via a wooden staircase.
The line of the stairs can be seen in the remaining plaster of the left wall.
