VIII.2.39 Pompeii. May 2006. Room r, tablinum, from large room, w. Looking north across tablinum, towards atrium and entrance doorway.
According to Jashemski, all of the rooms at the rear of this house were built out over the south wall of the city.
At the rear on the street level, the large room w, and the triclinia on either side of it (rooms v and x) were completely open onto the portico that preceded the terrace.
See Jashemski, W. F., 1993. The Gardens of Pompeii, Volume II: Appendices. New York: Caratzas. (p.209 and fig 244, reconstruction of rear of house).
VIII.2.39 Pompeii. Room r, tablinum east wall. 19th century drawing by G Discanno.
A statue of Apollo with a lyre under his arm, the omphalos on which is a crow and in front of that the tripod placed on a rise.
Nearby is a table with ribbons: on the bottom there are plants and trees.
On the left are two women one in an act of adoration, the other holding a basket and on the right is an armed man.

VIII.2.39 Pompeii. May 2006. Looking south overlooking rooms on first lower floor and terrace.
Originally, these rooms would have been under the street-level portico and terrace.
According to Jashemski, the principal room had a door and two windows that opened onto a wide terrace at the rear on this lower level.
A triclinium (room on the lower right) and a cubiculum (on the extreme left of the terrace, see below) each had a window opening onto the terrace.
