According to Jashemski, at the rear was a large peristyle garden, linked to VIII.2.16 by a room, opening on both ends to a different peristyle.
This garden was laid out on a volcanic ledge and was enclosed on four sides by a portico supported by fourteen columns.
There was a rectangular pool in the south-east corner of the peristyle, which had amphorae in it.
These would have served as a shady retreat for fish.
