VI.10.11 Pompeii. March 2009. Room 3, west side of atrium, looking towards south-west corner.
On the left, on the south wall would have been a painting of Ceres.
On the west wall in the south-west corner would have been a painting of a warrior.
In the centre, between rooms 12 and 11, would have been a painting of a Muse and Artemis/Diana in flight.

See Gell, W, 1832. Pompeiana: Vol 1. London: Jennings and Chaplin. p. 180, plate 62.
The paintings in the panels on the walls do not seem to be completely accurate, it may have been painted from memory to give an impression of the atrium. Photo courtesy of Rick Bauer.
Gell’s description reads…
“The walls when first discovered, were covered with brilliant colours, and much more might have been traced with regard to the details of the ornaments than is here represented, but the fact is, that by a variety of petty intrigues, strangers are prevented from drawing these objects, till they are either defaced or irrecoverably destroyed, and it is only by the despatch supplied by the camera lucida, that any memorial of them can be obtained. These walls of the atrium being higher than the rest are already in a tottering state, and possibly this plate may soon be the only record of their existence”.
