According to Moeller, if this drawing is accurate then the restoration of the furnaces in the last decade [he wrote in 1976] was not accurate.
The number of vats was small and the offector probably dyed manufactured clothing rather than large quantities of washed wool, thus requiring fewer vats.

(trans: “In the insula whose southern side borders with the vicolo in extension with that of Augustus”, to be identified perhaps with IX.3.2.)
