According to Mau this seat was set up to enjoy the uninterrupted views over the plain, to the mountains and across the bay. On the back of the schola seat was a sundial with an inscription. Now in Naples Archaeological Museum.  Inventory number 3832.

According to Mau this seat was set up to enjoy the uninterrupted views over the plain, to the mountains and across the bay.

On the back of the schola seat was a sundial with an inscription.

Now in Naples Archaeological Museum.  Inventory number 3832.

Mau translates this as 
'Lucius Sepunius Sandilianus the son of Lucius, and Marcus Herennius Epidianus the son of Aulus, duumvirs with judiciary authority, caused the seat and sundial to be made at their own expense.'
The same two duumvirs were also responsible for the sundial in the court of the Temple of Apollo.

Mau translates this as

'Lucius Sepunius Sandilianus the son of Lucius, and Marcus Herennius Epidianus the son of Aulus, duumvirs with judiciary authority, caused the seat and sundial to be made at their own expense.'
