VIII.2.23 Pompeii. December 2005. South wall, west end. At the rear of the south wall was the baths area.
Found in September 1887, in the furnace-area of the baths were many silver objects, weighing a total of about 3kg, together with wax tablets.
According to Cooley, these were found wrapped in a cloth, and relate to a business deal between two women dating to AD61.
A freedwoman Poppaea Note had borrowed money from Dicidia Margaris.
As security she had temporarily transferred ownership of two slaves to her creditor.
The second tablet [CIL IV 3340] related to the temporary transfer of the slaves.
