The large white panel at the back, in the upper right, is the Forma Urbis Pompeiorum.

This is a plan of Pompei cut onto a 5m wide slab of travertine and was completed in 1947.

This is in an area known as the Lararia dei Pompeianisti. (For photos see, VIII.1.4).

It was opened in 1948 and had the busts of Fiorelli, Ruggiero and Mau there.

The busts of Maiuri and Della Corte were added later.

See Garcia y Garcia, L., 2006. Danni di guerra a Pompei. Rome: L’Erma di Bretschneider.  (p. 204-5).

According to Van der Graaff –
“Another outlet [of a drain] on the south side of the Porta Marina is part of the outer curtain, indicating a similar if not earlier date.
The drain likely functioned as an overflow for a system of cisterns set slightly farther uphill, but damage wrought on the area by Allied bombing in World War II makes this claim unverifiable (Note 117). The channel ceased to function with the expansion of the Temple of Venus, when it disappeared behind the masonry of the Villa Imperiale in the course of the first century BCE.”
