VII.14.5 Pompeii. March 2009. Aedicula lararium in south-west corner of atrium.
According to Boyce, above a solid podium one column and two half columns applied to the south and west walls supported a roof.
This formed a kind of niche, the ceiling of which was vaulted.
The inside walls were painted red like those of the room.

(Their room 10), north wall, the red zoccolo with painted plants was all completely lost in this wall: in the middle zone the narrow central panel showed a painting on a red background, which today has lost its colour, whilst two architectural decorations separated this from the two yellow side semi-panels with vignettes.
The white upper zone showed architecture and was separated by a stucco cornice from the lunette, also with a white background.
The decorative scheme on the south wall was identical.
On the west wall, the IV style decoration was well-preserved in the south-west corner, where the red zoccolo with a plant was recognisable, and above it the yellow side-panel was painted with a carpet border of violet with buds.

Painting by James William Wild described by him as “a room much ruined. 16ft 2” by 12 ft 0”.
In the central panel, the painting would appear to be a temple.
