According to Niccolini –
“PITTURA MURALE. - in questa tavola è evidentemente dimostrato che il seppellimento di Pompéi dovette avvenire in diversi periodi, ed in più o meno denso calorico. È però incerto il precisare, se i rossi per tali circostanza, divennero gialli o viceversa, ma che ciò avvenisse e indubitato, come vedesi in questa parete tuttora esistente in Pompei.” (Tav. LIII)
(trans: “WALL PAINTING. - in this table it is evidently demonstrated that the burial of Pompeii
must have taken place in different periods, and in gretaer or lesser densities
of heat. However, it is uncertain whether the reds became yellow under these
circumstances or vice versa, but there is no doubt that this happened, as can
be seen in this wall which still exists in Pompeii.”
