VI.15.8 Pompeii. Casa del Principe di Napoli or House of the Prince of Naples.

In Notizie degli Scavi di Antichità, prior to January 1897, this house may be described as being in Insula 12 of Reg. VI. Afterwards it was changed to Insula 15 of Reg. VI.

In Notizie degli Scavi di Antichità, January 1897, plan on p.14, this house was numbered as VI.15.9.

It was renumbered in NdS, May 1897, p.198 as VI.15.8.  See Note on Region VI, Insula 15 plan for information.

VI.15.8 Pompeii. December 2007. Entrance with painted wall on north side of entrance corridor.
According to NdS –
the walls of the fauces, or entrance corridor, were decorated on a white background, which was then partitioned with black and red lines.
The high dado, or ‘zoccolo’ was painted black.

On the left is the doorway into a cubiculum on the south side of the entrance corridor.

According to NdS, this room had been covered by a barrel-vaulted ceiling and had a recess for a bed.
The walls were decorated with a white background and had a stucco cornice which ran around the walls at a height of approximately 2m from the floor.

According to NdS, this room had been covered by a barrel-vaulted ceiling and had a recess for a bed.

The walls were decorated with a white background and had a stucco cornice which ran around the walls at a height of approximately 2m from the floor.

At the foot of the dividing pillar between these two rooms, in the floor of the atrium, was the mouth of the cistern.

VI.15.8 Pompeii. May 2010. North wall of cubiculum. According to NdS, this room had a barrel-vaulted ceiling, and the area near the north wall had a second vaulted area, having a projection of 1.40m. At the top of this vaulted area, one could see a painted peacock going towards some fruit, on a white background. See Notizie degli Scavi, 1897, January, p. 35.

At the top of this vaulted area, one could see a painted peacock going towards some fruit, on a white background.
