Room 1, atrium, looking north to doorway to south portico of the garden area, at the side of the small tablinum.
Through the window in the rear wall of the tablinum, can be seen the site of the wide window of the triclinium.
According to Jashemski, the tablinum and the triclinium had a wide window looking out onto the garden area.

According to Boyce, on each of the side walls was a painting of a serpent, coiling towards an altar with two eggs and a pine cone on it.

Around the top of the three inner walls ran a cornice of modelled stucco painted in various colours, including two oblong panels on each wall.
Within each of these panels was painted a small hunting scene.
