II.7.9a Pompeii, Palaestra, on left. December 2006. Looking south along rear wall of II.8.6, on right.
According to CTP –
This was the door leading to the rooms for the doorkeeper/porter (ostiarius) and although originally was not numbered, now known as II.7.9a.
In the recent past, the Vicolo between II.7 and II.8 had been blocked up at the northern extremity.
The south side of the Vicolo was closed by a wall before reaching doorway at II.7.10.
At least 10 bombs fell inside and outside the Palestra during September 1943, but luckily damage was slight.
