According to the information board –
“The large park behind the house was planted as an orchard.
Soon after being excavated by Amedeo Maiuri, it was replanted and has now been re-arranged by retaining the same scheme of four large spaces surrounded by gravel paths and edged with hose-tongue lilies.
The spaces have been replanted with the existing fruit trees, replaced wherever necessary: pomegranate, quince, pear and cherry trees.
Along the perimeter grow trees and decorative shrubs such as cypresses, viburnum and oleanders.”
