I.7.19 Pompeii. December 2006. East wall of cubiculum on north side of corridor. According to PPM, the east side of the room was reserved for the bed, as indicated by the bed recess in the wall. The alcove was brightened, also, by a circular splayed window which gave light from the small courtyard. The only one of the three painting still legible was that on a black background showing Helen and Paris, which was in the middle of a large pink panel. The corner panels were black.

Helen, with a golden head of hair, and wearing an ample mantle sits with her feet on a stool. She is in the act of a bride revealing her face and breasts to the young Paris. Paris stands, wearing a Phrygian cap, Exomis (short tunic), shin guards and holding two lances. His gaze is fixed intently on her. See Notizie degli Scavi di Antichità, 1929, p. 366-7 and Fig. 6.
